The Cuyuna Lakes High School Mountain Bike Team began in 2013 with a roster of 14. Today, the team consists of more than 70 cyclists from across the Cuyuna region, including Crosby-Ironton, Brainerd, Pequot Lakes, and Aitkin.
The team is open to anyone in grades 6–12—all skill levels are welcome and no one has to try out. Coaches design training and practices to ensure riders are teamed with others of similar ability.
As both an individual and a team sport, students are challenged to do their personal best, as well as contribute to a team. As part of the team, students will learn more than mountain bike skills. They learn how to set goals and how to map a strategy to achieve them—and many also develop a lifelong love of shredding our red dirt.
Practices are held at the Cuyuna Country State Recreation Area from the end of July through the end of October.
Race schedules vary. The team competes in five races per season.
