This wasn’t Yia’s only Cuyuna cooking adventure—he was also the featured chef throughout the Fat Tire Camp Cuyuna hosted at Red Rider Resort and Campground in August. Watch as Chef walks you through cooking a complete dinner—grilled rainbow trout, Hmong fried rice, and herbed salad—outside, over the fire. Give his recipe a try with your next Cuyuna catch (if you need a little help finding the fish, talk to our friends at Oars-N-Mine).
Chef Yia Vang is the co-owner of Union Hmong Kitchen in St. Paul, Minn. He was born in a Thai refugee camp and later relocated to the Midwest with his family. Yia is a trained chef who has been featured on CNN, National Geographic, and Bon Appétit magazine. He enjoys blending local and Hmong traditions and flavors and sharing them with others.
